Here is another "Review" Art World Karen Burton "RENOIR" Cinemas Palme d'Or ART LOVERS DON"T MISS "RENOIR" - MOVIE AS BEAUTIFUL AS HIS PAINTINGS! Listen all of you art enthusiastic patrons “Renoir” is in your local Cinemas Palme d’Or. “Renoir’s” cinematography is almost as beautiful as his famous Ver más ... paintings. The sparkling sunlight of the day dances on the lawns, gardens, waterways and women of the Renoir estate. Renoir and his son Jean find themselves enchanted by the new red-haired model. Red hair comes with a strong-headed lovely girl who is smitten with the son. We watch the struggle of Renoir’s crippled wrapped hands, which paint everyday in tremendous pain. Former models that he has taken in as part of the Renoir family pamper him. They cook for him, have been lovers in the past, wrap and soak his hands, carry him in his chair, and soothe his screams of immense pain in the night. There is sadness to the film, his wife has recently passed on but not before she ran off one of his former pet models that he appeared to be too fond of, everyone is missing her all the while mourning the death of his wife. Renoir’s crippled body, his middle son who is wounded in the war, the older son who looses his arm and the small boy who he totally ignores except for demanding him to do chores add to the somber overtones of the film. The playfulness of the women on outings and the unfolding affair of the middle son and the red-haired beauty keep the film from falling into a darker event. We also learn not-so-familiar things out about Renoir such as his lust for his models, his extreme pain, his negative attitude towards his young son and we also find out he started painting as a china plate artist. Renoir is very wealthy and his work is highly prized. The paintings are what pay the bills for his large household and the family is looked upon as very wealthy. The director, Gilles Bourdos set up scenes from Renoir’s paintings of the red-haired model and the playful women on the Renoir estate. The French film is subtitled which almost went unnoticed by me because I was engrossed in the beauty of the scenery and finding out more about Renoir. The film takes place in 1915 show casing two Renoir artists the impressionist and the filmmaker to come. Christa Theret, Vincent Rottiers and staring Michael Bouquet round out the very well chosen cast who entertained the audience.
